Hi folks,

Just a quick intermission from the Japan trip posts. It’s been a while since I woke up for a Hawaii sunrise with the photography equipment in tow. Despite picking up a new camera backpack and selling my number 1 landscape lens to purchase and equip a new one (the Fujifilm XF 18mm f/1.4 R WR), it took the annual New Years Day sunrise meetup with the photography friends to roll out of bed this early!

Since it had been so long since the last time I did this, it took thrice as long to pack the bag to make sure I hadn’t forgotten: to charge the batteries and check to make sure the memory cards had enough storage, bring the filters and the correct sized lens-adapters, pack the head lamp also with a charged battery, get the toe-socks for my water shoes, you know, all the stuff. With Madam Pele active in Hawaii again, I hoped the accompanying vog would make for a uniquely Hawaiian sunrise, but alas, it wasn’t quite voggy enough on this fine Wednesday morning..
